Highlights of the International comics symposium from October 20th to 22nd at Angoulême’s International Comics and Visual arts center.

The 2021 international Comic Strip symposium, organised by the International Comics and Visual arts center of Angoulême, in conjunction with Angoulême, the Ministery of culture, the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, and Greater Angoulême, focused on “Comic strip : a living heritage – History of arts, heritagization and transmission”.

Dozens international figures of comics debated on comics ongoing issues, including the UNESCO Creative Cities :
Pr. Sangjeong Han from Professor at the National University of Icheon, Bucheon (Korea) – creative city of literature
Szymon Kloska, organsier of Krakow Conrad Festival (Poland) – creative city of literature
– writers duo Metaphrog composed of John Chalmers and Sandra Marrs of Edinburgh (Scotland) – creative city of literature
Thomas-Louis Côté, General Director of Québec BD – creative city of literature
Joëlle Epée, Director of Bilili comics festival of Congo-Brazzaville – creative city of music

Three days of round tables questioning major issues such as the preservation and recognition of comics heritage, academic research study programmes, comics and digital, comics and history of art, heritage revisited by authors, comics in urban-planning and public space…
