While the COVID-19 virus is affecting the entire planet, UNESCO’s creative cities and especially French cities, share their best practices, to maintain a cultural offer for all in these times of crisis.

The French Committee of Creative Cities was created in 2017 in partnership with the French National Commission for UNESCO. Its mission is to promote the sharing of best practices between French cities, to increase the visibility of their actions within the Network of Creative Cities Network (CCN), and to support and guide new applications. As part of the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, it seemed essential for French cities to share with each other, but also with the rest of UNESCO’s CCN, initiatives put in place in the cultural and creative sector, in order to reduce the impacts of the health crisis.

Angoulême’s actions:

All the cultural structures of Angoulême have adapted their offer to maintain access to the entire population. Among the initiatives:

  • The International Comics and Visual Arts Center (CIBDI) has launched a national initiative “All France Draws” supported by the Ministry of Culture. It has completely redesigned its website in order to highlight all its programming “on-line”: virtual tours, VOD, animations…
  • The Angoulême museums organised on-line conferences
  • The Alpha media library has put its available resources online and organizes reading workshops for young people from the age of 14.
  • The nef, the current music center, offers a weekly playlist.
  • Several organisms offer virtual exhibitions (School of Art, Theatre of Angoulême…)
  • In regards to the RVCU, Angoulême is defining a project with the CIBDI that will be open to all the Literature creative cities artists on their vision of their city after the Covid-19 crisis. An exhibition will be presented during the 2021 International Comics Festival and will be a first step to create an international network of artists.
